I was searching my laptop for a certain dream yesterday and came across this one. it seemed to me that it was for the present time.
October 19, 2017
I was carrying a two-year old and holding the hand of my daughter. I was teaching them about “street smarts” That they could not necessarily trust the appearance of those around them. I was telling them that they would not always be able to predict the actions of others. We cannot know what a person will do all of a sudden based on their appearance alone. I looked down at my feet to see that I was wearing flip-flops in the snow.
We went into a restaurant and a woman opened a box of shortbread. While the children quickly took and ate, I asked for one, took a nibble off the edge, and said that flour was added too late in the method and too much had been added, they were hard as rocks.
I woke up from the dream saying out loud ” They were not real cookies! ”
I went back to sleep, and returned to the same dream. Now, the children and I were on the church visitation committee. We were giving out artificial flowers. We had to give one at each visit. This is how the church records would be kept as to how many people were being followed up on. END
What a heartache. This dream was one of a number of dreams that the Lord used to give me a glimpse of the difficult time we are now experiencing.
If I indulged in “what if’s”, I might remonstrate myself that I had done nothing to change the outcome. I believe the foundation of thoughts like that is pride. Who am I to have the idea that I could change something in which God Himself did not intervene in the outcome because of free will.
Disappointment can be an opportunity. When others fail us, and when everything is shaken it is time to go back to what you know that you know that you know. The basics. We cannot get more basic than God’s word.
1 Corinthians 2: And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; 9 but just as it is written,
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.
14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
In a time when things look like they are falling apart we can be tempted to try to fix it. Let’s wait on the Lord for revelation of those deep things and listen to what He would say and do only that! Only by the Spirit of God can we have the Mind of God.
To have the mind of God we need to listen. What are the things given to us freely by God for such a time as this? What we might see as loss might be gain. What may appear as foolishness or failure (the cross) might be the very power we need to build a real church with real power, against whom the gates of hell will not prevail.
